We are kind of in your shoes right now. We went from Iowa via Canada to Juneau Alaska and points between, and on the Alaskan Highway. Took 4 weeks, not enough time.
Anyway I towed with my 1/2 ton Chevy pickup a fiberglass 17 foot camper, a Casita. Surprise we were the smallest camper in the campgrounds, aside from the pop ups, but we still had shower, AC, heat and etc, everything even some room for the three of us, two adults and one mid sized dog. Had great weather in June. Cabin fever, at times but we had our computers, and a television to watch at times. It was great to have our own bed every night. It was light weight and I drove the speed limit and at least 5 mph over. Never got under 12 mpg, and more like 14-16 on the prairies of Canada. Since we were outside a lot or visiting we never felt cramped.
BUT still and again I'd like to have a smaller 5th Wheel, something I can pull with a 3/4 ton, so we will be following this Thread. I can't stress enough how great this Forum is and of course the Members!!
