I learned that the reason for using nitrogen was that it was a bigger molecule than the gases that make up "air", therefore there is less leaking because rubber does have pores that air can leak out of. Now, how much leaking is prevented is a marketing gimmick. Tires will lose air and will lose nitrogen but not as fast. So fill with air and keep an eye on them. Like others have said, air is mostly nitrogen anyway. (78.09% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.039% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases) so my air filled tires have nitrogen in them too....i just did not have to pay extra for it.
