- down_homeExplorer III never run Nitrogen with Lithium Ion batteries. :)
- Mr_BeeboExplorerIf there were such a big difference, dealers would be installing "Nitro" valve stems and "02" valve stems, each with different fittings to avoid co mingling and contaminating the product currently inside the tire.

You can only use Nitrogen in LT tires... Those of you who run ST tires need to stay away, because nitrogen filled tires will explode when you exceed 65MPH rating for more than 30 seconds.
And y'all thought it was just the inferior ST tires... it's all about the nitrogen.

Congratulations Mike, this has to be one of the worst bits of misinformation I've ever read on this forum! Do you have the science to back up that statement?
Steve
Wow... you didn't know that? I thought everyone knew that? Check out Wikipedia for more info...
Actually, like 2oldman said, I guess I shoulda backed it up with a smiley face.... Figure I better say that before someone goes searching Wikipedia....
Just having a little fun like everyone else.

Sorry Mike, I had a brother-in-law who was a professional mechanic who used to come up with remarks like you said all the time, the only thing was… he was serious! I still wonder what universe he came here from. The sad part was that people actually paid him for his knowledge and expertise.

Mike - All_I_could_affExplorerWe're having a discussion about tires, temperature, and pressure here... Please let us not bring "science" into this!

I'm sorry folks but nitrogen and oxygen react to changes in temperature in EXACTLY the same way. This is taught in every freshman chemistry course as the ideal gas laws.
Science?? Facts?? Clearly you have wandered into the wrong place! - ughExplorer

I noticed that no one said that nitrogen molecules are larger therefore less nitrogen will leak. In that case I'll just pump up my tires to 23% above normal and let all the O2 leak out, leaving me with free nitrogen!!!
Best one. - notevenExplorer IIIWe sometimes use metric nitrogen in Canada. It's on the shelf beside the toilet paper oil filters.

It hadn't got hot enough to melt the plug before the explosion, as far as we could tell. The bits were pretty mangled by the time we saw them. - ShearwaterExplorerI'm sorry folks but nitrogen and oxygen react to changes temperature in EXACTLY the same way. This is taught in every freshman chemistry course as the ideal gas laws. If you want to check on this, look up ideal gas laws on Wikipedia and see what the math very clearly says.
If you don't want to believe in scientific principles that were established 150 years ago, that is your privilege.
