2 months in the shop to change a gas line is a sure sign that the shop is not taking care of you! At the most I can not imagine spending more than a hour changing out a gas line. Sure it might take 2 hours to dis-assemble the floor and perhaps some time to get under the slide out, but still! 2 moths is un-acceptable.
You MUST have a proper gas line. It should not be like the stainless steel gas line on your home water heater, as those are not designed to flex on a daily basis. It should be a rubber sort of hose, made to flex and move with the slide out. It seems like the factory design was not really good. It should have been protected better, and designed to flex open and closed 1,000's of times over 20 - 30 years before failure.
