If it was working and then quit without you doing anything it is probably the check valve on the output of the water heater.
Obviously I've not seen all RV hot water heaters but I've never seen a check valve on an RV hot water heater.
Only the water heaters with 3 valve winterizing systems don't have a check valve. - howardwheelerExplorerI had this exact problem and it was the check valve. I completely removed mine as I don’t need to winterize.

- Roger10378Explorer IIRemove the pex from the check valve and you will probably be able to remove the loose bits of the check valve. Reinstall the fitting and you will be good to go. Just replace the check valve before it is time to winterize if you use the pink antifreeze. I do not use antifreeze when I winterize mine so I didn't replace the check valve.

how do I check this?
Replace it. Get the brass one to replace what is most likely a plastic one. Chris - dustinlExplorer
