Palomino or Rockwood.

I ended up buying a 2011 Coachmen Chaparral 275RLS.

Lightweight at 7770 dry - Pin weight 1490 30' long
Triple slide-power anwnings & jacks

Pick it up on Friday this week along with a PullRight Super Glide 15K hitch - 160W solar and 2 brand new 6Volts..

Well, lets just say this aint my first rodeo, I've been using the internet since '93. Typically take most with a large grain of salt unless I can verify.

Opinions of owners, reviews etc all have their place & value. I have never doubted Forest River Product. In the end though, I feel I got better value with the unit I did end up buying... :C

Triple Slide, accessible Fridge/pantry with slides closed - isolated washroom from both the living area & the bedroom and still within my preferred weight/amount of coin I was willing to part with.

We got a great deal and a PullRight Super Slider to boot..

Doesn't get any better than that.
I'm looking forward to pulling this puppy.!


As an FYI: I did in fact weigh my truck: Full Titan Tank+Full 30Gal Slip Tank-Dog and self with nearly Empty Alum over the rail toolbox: 8120lbs.

I have had some issue with my 2013 Rockwood 5er and the one thing I appriated was the after purchase support. I was very pleased. I would assume the Palomino would be the same as they are both FR.

All I can add is that both the Palamino and Rockwood brands gained a real mentor when Warren Buffet's Bershire Hathaway Corporation bought them out.

Warren is a no non-sense "get 'er done" way of running a company..and Palomino/Forest River got the benefits of name brand components, higher standards of assembly, proactive Management/employee teams lead quality control audits that hold the assembly quality up to scrutany. And I note that the exterior graphics don't fade and crack after a year or two like certain other brands I could name.

I will say that after your experience with TT's...you will really enjoy towing a 5th wheel! Best of luck!

Just different "trim level" brands built by the same company, Forest River. They make decent stuff.

I have a 2014 Columbus by Palomino. I think its constructed pretty well. I have also been around Rockwoods and think they are pretty good overall. Do you know Palomino is a Forest River brand? They are both FR products, but they are both good products overall. Of course, when you sell as many RVs as FR there will always be a few lemons so look close at them. I would pick the floorplan that works best for you. Good luck.

My son has a 2008 Rockwood TT. We just replace a section of the roof as they had gouged the roof membrane under the edge of the ac unit while building it. While up there I also replaced the sewer vents as the plastic was brittle. I noticed that they had razor cut too far out and then didn't catch it with the dicor. He has checked and touched up the dicor but you couldn't see that very small slit that went just past the dicor yet it started sucking water and buckling the wood around it. His has a TPO membrane with a felt back liner and when there is a water leak the felt back acts as a channel to more quickly spread the water. Bottom line.....I wasn't impressed with Rockwood/Forest River. The floor is also spongy. Its not going to break through but you can feel it especially in the kitchen across from the slide out. No, it has never had water on the floor. The leak never even touched the ceiling as I caught it in time.
