Does anyone have a good resource to determine the best time to pull your camper through a major city?
Personally in general 6:00am to about 8:00pm, depending on sporting and concert events. - azdryheatExplorer

When I leave Tucson I plan to hit Phoenix after 900am. When I pull into SoCal I try to do so before 3pm. Pretty much applies to any large city I've visited. It's really common sense, as others have said, to avoid morning and afternoon rush hour.
please be more specific. 3 and 6? I assume that is not in the morning. What about in the morning. Does this apply to all cities or is this just your opinion? - Jim2007ExplorerAgree with Mitch150... Jim2007
- leftybjExplorerThanks Mitch. It seems like I just have to watch rush hour times. I can always take a break before entering a city if the time isn't right.
- MitchF150Explorer IIIIf you can control your travel times, then avoid AM and PM rush hour times for the most part..
It's been this way since pretty much.. Forever.... Way back when I was going coast to coast back in the 80's hauling stuff as a job, I'd always avoid rush hour times going thru major cities whenever possible..
Sometimes, that didn't work out with the time schedule, so you just have to deal with it... It's called life.. :)
The WAZE app for phones works pretty good, but again, you are on the road and so are others, so no guarantee ever.. :)
Good luck!
Mitch - leftybjExplorerI agree with Sunday mornings but I can not take a week between each city. Just kidding.
- LwiddisExplorer IIThere is NO good time in Los Angeles County.
- wanderingaimlesExplorerSunday mornings whenever possible.
- leftybjExplorerThanks pcm1959. That is good info. I was just wondering if there was a website that would provide that type of info. It sure would be handy.
- pcm1959ExplorerI think it really varies from city to city based on a number of factors. Besides the obvious rush hour times, sometimes the roadways make a huge difference based on the state of construction they may or may not be in.
For example, the best kept secret for years through Jacksonville, FL, was the I-295 E Beltway - formally known as 9A. Now with the addition of the 9B connector and all the construction on the East beltway its not a good deal to got that way.
I-95 right through Jacksonville is now pretty much complete so its just about better to just stay on I-95.
I pull our fiver right through downtown Atlanta, too. I have found going around to be no faster and the road was bet to heck.
I think its just a roll of the dice. Anyone else??
