Picking up new Cougar 333MKS 5th wheel tomorrow

I have been pulling travel trailers for many years with the current being 33' but the sheer mass of this near 37' 5th wheel has my knees quaking a bit! I'm sure I'll be just fine but until that first "pull" at delivery I've got these darn butterflys in the stomach. Will head to a big empty lot for practice. First outing is only a week away over a long Memeorial day weekend. Can't wait!

  • You will be fine after a couple of trips. Keep an eye on turns, as it will track more to the inside of the turn than the TT did. Backing up, it will be slower to start turning, but catches up quickly.

    Enjoy, and congrats!
  • I would suggest airing it out with fans and baking soda for the whole week before you go. Our cougar had a terrible smell when we picked it up. Gave me terrible headaches. I hope you aren't as sensitive as me. Took us a full four weeks of airing before we could use it. We also were surprised how much more movement there is in a fifth wheel than our TT. You may want to consider X chocks and king pin stabelizer if sway bothers you. Hope you enjoy your new rig.

Going from a 33' TT to a 37' 5er you will be shorter by about a foot. That and the tail will not try to wag the dog!
  • Same here. Went from an 18' TT to a 36' fiver TH. First thing I noticed is the difference in the way it tracks behind your TV. Take it slow, especially when turning and backing.
  • I went from a 27' TT to a 34' 5er and it was different for sure :) Nothing a little time behind the wheel wont resolve.
