Pick up toad tomorrow

Well, tomorrow I finally get my 2013 Fiesta prepped to tow. Blue Ox base plates, Blue Ox Alpha tow bar and SMI Stay-in-play aux. brake system. FINALLY! So I have simple question. Is it OK to leave my tow bar attached to the back of the MH in the stowed position for the 35 mile drive to pick up the toad? I have this vision of it dropping down to the tow position and dragging the tow arms along the highway! YIKES!

Thanks.
  • Yes, I don't do it, but I've seen lots of people who do! Congrats on the new set up!
  • Has anyone noticed any wear on the lockable hitch pin?
Idoes it need to be replaced form time to time?
  • Thanks for the help. I'll leave it mounted in the stored position. Mine is new, so it fits pretty tight in the horizontal stored position.
  • Bill and Terry, we also have the Blue Ox tow bar and I usually remove it once a year while in Quartzsite, AZ, at the big RV tent show so that Blue Ox can inspect it.

Over the years thay have tightened it where it was very difficult to swing it over to lay in the horizonal position. With a little force, I can do it. I had to buy a new part for it recently and the repair facility tighened it up so that I'm in the same situation again. It's getting better but I have to use a little force to get it in the stow position.

The bungee cord sounds like a good idea for extra safety.

    Safe travels,
    Mark
  • Blue ox towbar should be able to stow in upward or sideways that will not fall down. Have never removed ours from back of MH. I have a locking hitch pin, and am not sure where the key is. Have never used it.
  • I have traveled hundreds of miles with my Roadmaster attached. If really concerned, maybe you could secure it with a bungee cord or the like.
