Pilgrim Open Road advice please?

My husband and I are looking at a 2007 Pilgrim Open Road that I have fallen in love with. Our concern is that since Pilgrim is no longer in business....does anyone own or have owned a Pilgrim? Can they tell us their feelings on the construction, quality, etc.? Thanks so much for any input!

  • We had a Open Road 5th wheel, we did like the unit a lot but we were one that had frame damage, ours cracked just under the bed room slide. Had that fixed but also then found out the frame connecting to the pin box area was also broken, also got that fixed but then traded it in before anything else cracked. The shop that fixed it said there were very poor welds done all were mostly just tack welds, I feel this was more a fault of Lippert not Pilgrim.
Good luck with your choice the insides were very well put together only a few little things needed fixing.
  • We have a 2007 Open Road 396 and absolutely still love it, It is very well built. I still have not seen a floor plan that I like better after all these years either. We purchased ours in Dec. 2006 before the bank pulled the plug on Pilgrim.
  • FYI to the OP, the Open Road was the top end rv built by Pilgrim, not a Legends.
  • we have a 2007 open road with 3 slides. Never a problem with the unit. Apollo micro went out about a year ago, replaced with another convection/micro. We bought it new in May 2007 and have traveled to Arizona from Ontario Canada each year. We stay in it for 5 months during the winter. .Have been really satisfied with it. We are in Quartzsite Arizona now and packing up to leave for home in about 2 weeks. The air cond has run each afternoon for the last month(a little warm over here). Just make sure you do your research and chek out all the components before buying. The insulation in the walls and ceiling are good, way better than our neighbors TT. Hope this helps. Dona
  • Even though our's isn't an Open Road it is still a nice camper. We bought it new after they went out of business. Just like the comment above, I fugured all the major components/appliences were made by someone else so a warranty by the camper manufaturer would only cover the construction. Got a good deal on a new camper. So far so good.
  • Our first RV was a 2002 Open Road TT. We used it for several years trouble free, then sold it to my brother in law. They still have it and love it. No problems. Not sure if that helps, but they were great, solid units in their day
  • awesome info...since we will be newbies to rvs I really appreciate the info!
  • I have a 20007 Pilgrim Legends and love it. It was there high end non full time unit. The construction is great and have had no problem at all since I bought it in 2010. It has a lot of composite features that are used in the Evergreen line(Evergreen was started by the owners of Pilgrim),with all of that out of the way I can tell you that most RV manufactures use the same companies for parts, so if something breaks you can replace it easily. A 2007 Fifth wheel has no warranty no matter who made it. The frame is made by Lippert axles by Dexter, Heat by dometic and so on. I hope this helps a little.
