Pin box is rubbing on hitch

Sorry for what you are going through. Hopefully, it will be taken care of properly.

Man that sucks. But that does explane a lot.

I just wanted to give everyone an update on this issue. I ended up taking the 5th wheel to Camping world near Portland Oregon. I have lots of other issues with this 5th wheel.


Here is what Camping world put in their report ...


PIN BOX NOT LEVEL CAUSING NOT TO LOCK
PROPER WHEN CUSTOMER HITCHES UP. PIN
BOX NOT INSTALLED RIGHT FROM FACTORY.
USED FLOOR JACK AND 2X4 BOARD TO TEST
PIVOT OF PIN BOX AND FOUND PIN BOX
FLEXES UP INTO FRONT CAP. 1 1/2" PULLED
LOWER FRONT CAP MOLDING STRIP TO
INSPECT FURTHER, FOUND CRACKS IN WELDS
OF FRAMING, HOLDING PIN BOX IN
PLACE. FRONT CAP NEEDS PULLED AND ALL
WELDS GROUND AND REWELDED AND FRAMING
NEEDS SUSSSETS.


Like I said, there are lots of things wrong with the 5th wheel. It was decided to send it back to the factory so they can fix everything.


In the first year of having this vehicle, It has been in the shop for about 21 weeks. Now its going to be another 3 or 4 Months. I sure wish I could just get my money back.

Thanks ol Bombero. I will update as I progress with this issue.

For now, I raised my hitch one bolt hole, and loosened the pivot bolts on the Pin Box. It looks a little better, but still not right. I will be going out this coming week, so the real test will be on the road.

error is in the pinbox. As your previous rig was, when hooked up the hitch plate and pinbox plate should be level. A good look at the pin box mounting is needed.

I may be cheap, and/or dumb. It looks like it is barely rubbing and only in pitched turns. I would be inclined to add one or two of the round white teflon or plastic spacers and just keep an eye on it. Grinding would be a last resort.

Don't feel too abused. I have RV dealers all around me. Nobody says anything good about any of them. I use a local home handyman to do many of my repairs.

as others have said I think the hitch needs lowering and the pin box angled more. it just looks to flat to me. that may put the trailer a couple inches closer to the truck but that don't look to be a problem

I think that would hit on a 16K Reese hitch also. Am I correct that you had this hitch on another trailer before this one? I'm wondering if the bolts and all the holes fit tight. If say the pinbox was made for 5/8 bolts, but you only have 1/2 bolts because that what the trailer is sized for. If that were the case then the pinbox could rotate a few degrees, pushing up in front. Changing the geometry by a small amount. The fact that your hitch plate isn’t level makes me think the pinbox is at the wrong angle. The other thing I would check is the pivot bushing above the pin.

I have thought of looking at other hitches and pin boxes, I hope it doesn't have to come to that.
