neighbor right across the street from my front window, is carrying a 32' Hitch Hiker, with a dry weight of 10,500, with a 2012 2500 Chev crew cab 6.0 gas. He has a turnover ball, with heavy Companion hitch in the back. He has no suspension help, and the truck barely squats when he pulls out. I don't know his loaded pin, but guessing more than yours will be. He tows shorter trips, max 400 miles one way. He says it handles good, and he just turned 80 yrs old.
I should stay out of this as I have so far managed to do - - - but your neighbor sounds a bit like me. Not exactly but with these slight modifications.
My HitchHiker is 33' 10" we call it a 34.
I use a regular fifth-wheel hitch.
I have no suspension modification and I notice no "squat" at all.
I towed from East Texas to Banff last year; will go to Ontario in June.
It handles excellently -- no want of control, power, or braking -- handles mountain passes with confidence.
Mine is a 2017 Chevrolet 2500 HD Duramax/Allison (My previous trucks were all similar. Traded in a 2008 on the 2017.
I turned 85 last October.
I have 81,737 miles on this HitchHiker all with similar Trucks. No need to go into the three previous fifth-wheels.
And now, I may regret that I did not follow my rule not to engage in these discussions --- I may find I can't do what I've been trying to do for the last 20 years.;) Said in good humor!
