Hi Guys,Finally relocated to SoCal and now planning my first outing with the family. TH is stored in Mission Viejo. Can you recommend areas that are within 3 hrs drive. I have small kids so don't want to over do it on our first trip distance wise. My concerns are safe areas and accessibility. It could be either ohv or lake. Plans are for Labor Day...usually arrive before the holiday and leave after. Depending on the location I would love to take all my toys. Is there a place that you can bring four wheelers plus do a little fishing or swimming? Thank you!Carlos

You can go up to the mammoth area ( Sherwin creek or glass creek). Both offer camping and riding in and out of your camp site.

Pismo, is about 4 hours but is a place to take the toys. Places to go camp are abundant. Big Bear, for the jeep, 2 hours. Vail Lake to just camp 2 hours....Mission Bay in San Diego are a few that come to mind.

Borrego Springs has a great OHV area the tow is not too bad if you go around thru palm springs. If you go over the top and down it is a steep downgrade that you can take slow and be fine.

Kennedy meadows is dirt bike only and about 5 hours out.

Someone mentioned Borrego springs....too hot right now (wait until October-april) and must have a plated vehicle...just down the road from there is Ocotillo Wells SRVA and much better suited, wait for fall. As with Johnson Valley, Spangler Hills, Jawbone/Dove Springs....al areas to research for the Fall/winter/spring.

This time of the year, you want to stay away from the deserts and stick to the mountain or beach (Pismo) regions unless you prefer 115+ temps.
