The biggest advantage for me to use the bumper plug is freeing up my bed space. My electric cable mostly lies in the bed when using the bed plug and will tend to catch on anything I'm hauling behind the 5th wheel hitch. I suspend my brake cable with a retracting tether so the bed is free in that area now.
