If the truck was MOVING it is under collision.
If you hitched and the handle was not locked and you went back and removed the wheel chocks and the RV rolled back and fell that's comprehensive. Wink Wink.
And you are assuming because the truck was moving its collision.
What about a rock damaging your truck or windshield on the highway, its comprehensive if its glass, is it collision if its body damage. So a tree branch breaks off when you are moving under it, thats also collision? I run into that same branch then it is collision, there is a difference. Well in my case it was. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIIf the truck was MOVING it is under collision.

I believe this, but isn't it amazing when you order a new truck, the manufacturer only gives you a credit of about $900.00 for the "Bed Delete" option?

That's because it's their cost for the bed, not the retail price. - cummins2014Explorer

...........Well , I just ordered a Blue Ox Bedsaver hitch to fit my Reese 20k 5'ver hitch ! It appears that Blue Ox has QUIT mfging these items , as several places I sourced the bed saver list it as not available ! The Mfger # for mine was BXR 4102......fits Reese 18k , 20k , and 22k hitches !
...........In fact , Bed Saver Hitches are NOT listed anywhere on Blue Ox's website . , jf
Having the resources to fabricate one, I did several years ago for my 18K Reese, its a nice feature.
If you have a B&W according to the owners its impossible to drop a fifth wheel :), if you don't leave the handle locked open, so in reality anyone or any hitch can result in a dropped fifth wheel.
To answer the OP, I think most deductibles , at least mine are very different . I have $50.00 on comprehensive , and $500.00 on collision. Obviously I would want to use comprehensive if possible.
Heres the difference when I was being coached when getting some minor roof damage covered on my fifth wheel. Did the tree branch fall on the roof ,or did you drive under a low hanging tree branch, there is a difference on coverage.
Tree branch falling is comprehensive , Driving under the branch is collision. IMO I think you fall under comprehensive, you didn't run into anything. Its no difference then you dropping a load in the bed ,and damaging it , it just about has to be comprehensive , but the insurance may say different. - jimmyfredExplorer...........Well , I just ordered a Blue Ox Bedsaver hitch to fit my Reese 20k 5'ver hitch ! Kind of off topic, but I'm curious so I don't do this myself. How does this happen? I always look at the locks to make sure they are wrapped around the king pin before I let the jacks down. Is that enough or am I missing something?
Yeah real off topic.
I usually don't recommend a search on this web but we have dozens of dropped the 5er threads which many get so contentious they sometimes get closed and of course you can google for hundreds of pages of reading on the subject.
I had a drop in '84 on a three week old 2500 chevy.
My insurance asked for three estimates and paid for it under comp part.
As was mentioned your insurance company or its agent can tell you what they want done. - FLY_4_FUNExplorerIn my case, I inadvertently flipped up the safety catch that positively locks the handle for pulling the jaws apart. When I backed down into a site we were on a decent incline and the trailer moved backwards and the jaws opened up and released the kingpin. The trailer rolled back, dropped onto the bed and slid on the top of my box until the kingpin contacted the tailgate. Had it not been spray lined the tailgate would have likely crumpled and released and the entire trailer would have landed on the road. My fault as I didn't believe the latch being opened was holding back those jaws as it was.

You can high hitch and not realize it, But at the end of the day drops are generally do to operator error vs. a mechanical failure.
They make bed saver's for this reason.
AS noted above repairs caused by a drop can be expensive. - FxfymnExplorerKind of off topic, but I'm curious so I don't do this myself. How does this happen? - RollandBExplorerPull out your policy and read the collision portion under the physical, damage section. If it doesn't sound like that would cover it, the it's a comp claim. Comprehensive is commonly referred to as "other than collision).
My gut feeling is it's a collision claim.
