Power surge

Learned something new yesterday, the fixit guy at work explained about power strips and surge protectors. The surge protector will work, until it doesn't. No way to know when it has failed, until you get cooked. So, I know I have to get decent protection for my TH....and I see all kinds of in line protection on search, what exactly are the terms I am looking for in the product description to get the surge protect, low voltage warning, and clean power?

    The amount of surge protection is pitifully low and identical on the Hughes and the PI units.

    Will be ordering the EMS-PT30 today. Spent a lot of time reading thru the Hughes web site, and that is an excellent unit. They are honest, and state that some parks do not accept the Hughes unit. Also, the way I read the instructions, I could miss the fact that a surge or spike had hit the unit. If the EMS gets a surge, it shuts down the power to the RV.

    Far more damage is caused by low voltage (brown outs) than by surge.

    BTW anyone who wants to prevent brown outs should consider the new Hughes autoformer which does test polarity, bad neutral, bad ground has limited surge capability, and of course corrects low voltage.

    Get the Progressive Industries EMS with the digital display. I mounted my display right above the fuse box which I can see every time I enter the trailer.

    Progressive Industries is excellent before the sale and after the sale. Just had a board replaced on our 9 year old unit covered under warranty. All we paid was shipping which was very nominal. We did have to return the old board to PI.

    +1 on the Progressive. Besides surges, it protects from improper polarity AND low/high voltage. We recently were in a park the was only giving 112v per leg and the PT50 kept cutting the power to protect the rig's devices. We ran off generator the balance of our stay.
