I agree with above. Retain an attorney and have them send letter of intent. Once a lawyer is involved wheels will start turning.
I doubt it will be 500-1k. Most will want 2-3k for x number of hrs litigation time up front.
Oh and I would refrain from talking about it further on here until you get the advice of the attorney. Not usually good to talk about pending litigation.
