If it's engineered for it, a long, long time - that's the point of J2807 testing and compliance. I wouldn't want to pull that weight with a truck that isn't rated to do it, either. That's why we traded our 2011 3500 for this 2016 3500.
Although the bodies are similar 4th Generation Rams, the differences between the 2011 and 2016 3500 include:
Frame
Suspension
Brakes
Engine
Cooling Pack (engine coolant, transmission fluid, engine oil, charge air)
Transmission
Driveline
Rear Axle
Trailer Brake Controller
Exhaust Brake
etc.
Under the skin, they're completely different trucks.
