pulling fifth wheel with f250 supercab 6.2L engine

I currently have a trailer with dry wt of under 4500# but want to get a new 5th wheel that shows dry weight of 7225#. I understand a fifth wheel pulls different than a trailer, but need some input from someone who knows. Any help would be great!
  • welcome to the forum.....

The F250 sure won't have any issues at all pulling or carrying 1800-2000 lb hitch weight from a 260RD Reflections 9500 GVWR 5th wheel trailer. The 6.2 engine is a good match up with that size trailer.

Your pulling a trailer much heavier than your old one so you will notice the weight difference. I've pulled several of both (rv and non rv) and found the 5er more stable going down the road in all conditions.

Someone says get G load range tires (4080-4400 lb capacity per tire). Thats not a good idea on a trailer that small with approx 2500 lb per tire load requirements. Kinda' like putting 22.5" semi truck tires on a 1/2 ton truck.

    Enjoy the 260RD trailer.
  • I take delivery of my new 5th wheel tomorrow, and I'll be pulling it with a 6.2L F350 Long Bed (8'). My new rig will weigh in about 10,000 fully loaded.

I'll let you know how it does.
  • If you can handle approximately 1400 pounds of pin weight plus people and stuff in the truck, you’re good to go.
  • 1. Get 16 inch rims and G rated tires
    2. Get a long bed truck
    3. Buy Diesel truck with a Exhaust Brake
    4. Contact Transfer Flow in Chico ca. To replace your stock fuel with an auxlilary larger fuel tank. 60 gal or larger.
  • As WNYBob said, make sure your payload numbers are good and that you buy the right hitch. You didn't mention the brand/model of 5th wheel and what size bed the truck has so you may or may not need a slider hitch.
  • 250 gasser would pull that with lots of of safety margin.
