Our issue is finding the right height to unhitch. Latches on good and won't let go if we're a tad too high or a tad too low.
When hitching I set the trailer height to just barely below the height of the hitch plate when held level. This causes the trailer to ride up the plate slightly. Maybe a height difference of 1/4-1/2" is all thats needed.
When unhitching I pull the release then raise the trailer until the capture plate just starts to come off the hitch plate. Maybe 1/8" inch gap.
Never had any issues.
X2! It works just fine if you raise the 5th wheel as you back up. To help me align I painted a stripe on the hitch plate, put two strips of tape down each side of where the pin goes and painted the center white, I line that up as I back with the pin! Then get out and check the hieght before backing home! No problems.
I went out and did this makes it a lot easier to see where the pin goes Thanks
