Pullrite Super glide hitch

With a little practice you'll find it quite easy to do. There is a learning curve and we went through it too! Lots of good advice so far.

I don't have any problem but I'm usually pretty level and straight when unhooking. After backing into a space, I chock the wheels (both directions) and pull the handle before touching the landing gear. Once the handle is out, I raise the trailer until I feel the plates have separated. I confirm by moving the handle. If I can rotate it even slightly, it's ready to unhook.

Sure sounds like a lot of trouble to have something now that in most applications with the new sculptured front caps on fifth wheels, a slider is not needed. Just extra expense , weight, hassle etc..

Went from a manual slider to the Andersen Ultimate as mentioned before .so did my friend with the Superglide , he too got tired of the hassle. In my case I just wish I would of changed to the Andersen when I first knew about them, life would have been so much easier. Live ,and learn :)

All good advice which I have done all of the above my storage space is on a slope is where I have the most trouble. I will try Y-Guys idea.

When I had mine. I would back up to relieve the pressure from going forward. Then I would raise the landing gear until I could see daylight between the pin and hitch plate. As long as I was relatively straight I could unhook with ease.

The instructions with my Superglide were that you had to be within 12 degrees of straight ahead in order to hook or unhook because of the capture plate. There were quite a few times I could not get the hitch to release without first raising the trailer a little like everyone else has described then chocking the trailer wheels, putting truck in reverse until there was tension on the hitch, set the parking brake and get out and release the hitch then putting the truck in neutral and letting everything relax. Yes it was a PITA. I no longer own a 5th wheel but used the Superglide for 8 years.

While I doubt it's the same issue I had, I share just as an FYI. I had the hitch head opening spread a bit, made disconnecting a huge challenge (like what you had). After contacting the folks at PullRite they confirmed that I had to much separation. You might measure the outside opening and back about half to the back and see if they are the same. If they are off, contact PullRite for help.

Only a few times I have been off angle to unhitch, had to pull the pins and let the hitch head come off. Hitching up I have always be able to get straight on.

Yes the wrap around latch will bind up if there is any tension between the truck and trailer. I do best to leave some weight on the trailer and nudge the truck fore and aft to get the tension off. Usually I can find the sweet spot with a try or two otherwise I may have DW get in the truck while I pull the lever.

You should be as straight as possible when hooking and unhooking. It's the only hitch I have owned, and I have had no issues. Once in a while, take the head apart and lube it. You can be smug knowing when you make that odd manuever or sneak into a gas station, your back glass and cab are safe.
