The biggest Noobie mistake is being too timid when backing in.
I completely disagree. I take it easy and it works everytime. Trick is finding the right height between pin box and hitch. Some need to ride up others need to be just level. Once you know what yours is you will have it in the bag.

Been doing this for years with SG.
(From "day one" - never had a 5th or a SG before)
You should either be exactly level - or (best) "ride up" the hitch a bit. Back in slowly until latch slams shut.
*VERY* audible latching sound!
Suggest you have a discussion with PullRite Tech line.
Maybe it's operator error -or- maybe something isn't right...:h
