Purchasing our first 5er this week. Have a 2010 Ram 4x4 crew cab CTD SRW SB and am getting a 2014 Jayco Eagle HT 27.5bhs.
Am considering the two hitches listed in the title? Which would be the best choice?
Why would you consider the two hitches, long bed I would go with B&W , you having a short bed I would go with the automatic slider, It is a no brainer . Having just purchased a new Ram short bed,I am very skeptical about the clearance, coming from a short bed ford that has a six inch longer bed then what you and I have. I have the manual reese slider, and most likely will sell it, and get the Superglide, I will check clearance first when I get things setup. If I was starting from scratch there would be no question,I would go with Superglide, No brainer .
The Ford has a 7' box? Firstst I've heard of that. My Ram has the 6.5' box. - The OP has a short bed

Speculation?
Most importantly - - owned one of each?
I have the PR SG also - but have *NO* reason to "think" about anything else - "seriously" or otherwise.
Why?
Had it since 2005, it does everything it's supposed to, works great, no problems!..:C
Ain't broke - sure doesn't need any fixing.
However, I've never owned a B&W - so no way to compare..:@
IMO - that statement probably applies to 99% of the owners of either brand.
Sooooo - unless you can find those "one percenters", suggest you do a search on each brand and see what the owners have to say about their respective hitches..;)

I have it because it was on my truck (Long-bed) when I bought it.
I'm also an engineer, and for a long-bed, the superglide is needlessly complex.
The more complex any device is the more likely it is to fail and the more maintenance is required to prevent that.
For a short-bed, it works very well. I suspect that I would prefer the SuperGlide to a manual glide. - kzspree320ExplorerI have a Superglide and love it. Just act like your towing with a long bed truck and don't worry about clearance issues. Good luck.

The only reason I would choose the B&W is if I had a gooseneck trailer. Both quality hitches though. - ependydadExplorerAs a card-carrying member of the B&W Fanboy Cult, if I had a short bed, I'd seriously consider an automatic slider for the convenience.

Does an auto-slide 5th wheel work when turning sharp on a downhill?
I will be interested in the answer also. I live in cul-de-sac and have a sharp turn to be able to back in drive. - southernskyExplorerNever had any problem with Pullrite.(15K) Why wouldn't it work on a sharp downhill turn?
