Putty tape on TPO roof.

So I used putty tape to seat a new vent on my TPO roof, and then sealed with eternabond. Since then, I have read not to use putty tape on EPDM roofs as it leaches petroleum...but can't find anything that says it can't be used with TPO roofing

Did I make a mistake and should I worry about it?

  • Further research seems to indicate that putty tape is made from linseed oil, or butyl rubber in place of that. Linseed oil is not compatible with EPDM, but is fully compatible with TPO. I can't find anything about butyl rubber on tpo other than from Camco that says not to use their butyl rubber putty tape on EPDM roofs.

Looks like putty tape is okay on TPO roofs. Lucked out...that's unusual.

X2 would think you'd do much more damage trying to get the tape up. I'd leave it alone.
