Question for lippert level up system users.

On a winnebago Destination 5th wheel using hydraulic level up system. When going into the hitch recognition mode, do you raise the back jacks first, and then hit the left and right buttons and let it do its thing. The manual does not tell me to raise the back jacks first. My concern is, if I have to make an adjustment when hooking up will it matter if the back jacks are down. Once hooked up, the auto retract jacks can be used.Just wondering what everyone did?

If you go to manual mode and retract you can push the rear button and all 4 will go up. Not at the same time but they will all go up. Then you can go to the front.

The easy way doesn't play well with my Curt hitch. If you do it the easy way the trailer stays level, just nose high. No problem for the Level-Up system as Rusty described. BUT my Curt wants the TV and 5er tilted the same, side to side, in other words the hitch and pin at 90 deg angle. I found if I go into manual mode and retract the rear all 4 rear jacks will go up. I then turn it off and back on and push the L+R buttons and the nose raises to the hitch position BUT without the rear jacks it will be tilted same as the ground and the TV. No problem hitching then.

    good info, thanks

  • Learned something new today. I quit using the "auto" mode to bring the front jacks back to the unhitched level. I thought that would put too much stress on the frame and back jacks when the trailer needed to be raised for the truck to get under.

I guess I can go back to doing it the "easy" way now. Thanks Rusty!

  • Yep, the manual is really vague in this area. I did what Rusty said and it worked as he said.

No, without going into manual mode, it won't let you retract the rear jacks prior to hitting the left and right arrows to restore the 5th wheel to its height when unhitched. There's no problem at all with the rear 4 jacks being down when you restore the nose to its unhitched height as the center and rear jacks on each side are plumbed together. That means when the nose rises (let's assume) back to its height when unhitched, the rear jack will compress as the load increases on it and the fluid from that rear jack will go to the center jack to extend it. They are self-compensating. Use the left and right arrows to bring the nose back to its height when unhitched, use the front extend or retract to make any trim adjustments, hitch up and, when ready, enter the manual mode and select Retract All Jacks. After they retract, you're done insofar as the LevelUp system is concerned.

Thanks Rusty, makes sense. I have done it the way you describe, but got spooked I guess, trying to watch everything at once.
