Quick question

What is the amp hours of an Interstate SRM-27 12v battery? Can't seem to find a definitive answer. TIA

  • 160 is what I would use.
This is not a true deep cycle. If you have room I would be using two 6 volt golf cart batteries from Costco at about $75 each.

Saw that, but it says nothing about amp hours, only cranking amps.
Then you might consider a different battery for house use.

Didn’t realize Costco carried 6v batteries. Any idea who makes theirs and how they compare to others such as the Trojans??
  • OK. I understand the difference between true deep cycle batteries and the marine batteries. I wasn't sure exactly what these had as far as amp hours because very few companies report amp hours on 12 volt batteries.I'd end up with about 320 amp hours since they add when you go in parallel but only 215 with to 6 volts in series. right now, the 6 volts at Sam's are over $90 each, locally. Frankly, given the higher cost of the 12 volt battery, and I would need to plus another battery box and cables, is about a wash for buying the two 6 volt batteries, 2 new battery boxes and cables. with a hundred watts of solar charging to extend my battery life a bit, I was thinking that for this go-round anyway, I could stick with the two 12 volts and get the two 6 volt a few years down the road after these go belly-up. After comparing prices, though, I'm seriously thinking of just going ahead and getting the 6 volts now.

  • So, I guess the 2 12v vs 2 6v argument boils down to this analogy:

You have a 100 gal fuel tank, but can only get 50 gallons of it out safely without damaging the tank to the point where you can only get 95 back in, OR you have a 75 gal tank that you can get 70 gallons out of without damage to the tank and can refill to 75 gallons over and over.

    How close is this? :B

  • The Interstate battery is a JCI product. It is 160 minute RC. They rate them at 96AH, but I wouldn't put much faith in that number since they don't tell you how it is measured.

This is my quandry. At this stage, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to go the 2 6v route and have done with it. Just a total pain going from a dedicated battery box to one that's part and parcel of the entire front and pass-through storage areas, so I've got to have some venting in place and I'm going to have to tee off the existing vent line to the 2nd box and replace =both= boxes. Layout just won't let me use a single in-line box, or I'd do that in a heartbeat.
