I currently have a rear lounge looking at some rear kitchen models. I have "heard" that when travelling with these rear kitchen units that anything and everything thats in your cabinets and refrigerator get bounced all over in the cabinets and refrig, something that I do not experience with my kitchen now in the middle of my camper.Can anyone with a rear kitchen tell me if this true before I buy one.Thank you for your input

we don't own one, but I have heard this from several campers who do own them. All kitchens used to be centered on the side. I think they tried to get fancy by moving them aft and forward. Forward really put the weight up front and then the aft put it in the bounciest area. This is my opinion!

I've owned two RKs and never lost anything from the cabinets however both units had shocks and standard leaf spring suspensions.

I also am looking at a rear kitchen, I will post here so I can readily check the post for some good answers.

I had a Montana fifth-wheel with rear kitchen. The only problem I ever had was the glass plate in the microwave... I would put a bath towel over it to keep it in place. Other than that, everything was good and nothing got rearranged going down the road. What would concern me more with some of the newer models is, it appears on some when the slide comes in, it blocks off the refrig in the back corner. I would have another rear kitchen if the opportunity would come up. Lots of counter space.

I have a TT with RKS. We do have some issues with the drawers coming out and I've had to add support blocks under the microwave to stop it from coming loose on the cabinet frame. Our previous trailer with mid kitchen also had drawers coming out when driving through NYC ...... Some of the worst roads in the world.

We have had three TT in a row with the rear kitchen. Still have one at the present time. Towed them over 10,000 miles and no problems with drawers sliding open, cabinets doors or anything so far. I do put a pillow in the micro when traveling.

We have an RK also without any kitchen issues. We did however have drawers in the bedroom keep sliding out during travel and had to strap them in.

Well we have a rear kitchen refer on back wall. We did have one issues last month, we were going to Ft. Stevens SP heading north on 101 south of Seaside. The standard "Rough Road" sign that has been in the section that floods every year. Well it was MUCH rougher than in the past. Truck with new Bilstien's did OK, :) 5er with no shocks(yet):S, I swear left the road! Rough spot was more like a speed bump, speed was 45.
When we got to the campground we found that the beer and soda in the refer door shelf's had broken all three shelf's! I am not sure if it would have been better with a center kitchen or not. We have the rear kitchen as DW loves to cook on the road, and this is a good size kitchen to allow that.
I see that as an extreme case, no other issues. :)

Next expenditure on the 5er is shock kits for both axles!!!

Our frig is located at the rear corner of the rig and have had no issues and no special measures done. Our non-kitchen upper shelves along the back wall do show signs of some bouncing around though.

Further from the center and there's more movement - that never caused a problem in our rear kitchen. Really like th open area in the center and added counter space in the kitchen.

We also have a rear kitchen in a 25ft TT. I like it as the bedroom is at the opposite end,(less noise). There are 2 exterior doors. One leads right into the rear kitchen. This is great when you are outside and want to reach into the fridge, or carry food out to grill, etc. I do pad things with towels and potholders, but I did that with the other floorplans.

It does take a bit of precaution in packing the dishes, and we have lost a couple of pieces when we've hit particularly rough patches prior to packing more carefully. All in all though we love the space afforded by the rk. We've got a huge amount of cabinets and counter space.

We have had two TTs with rear kitchens and now the 5er we have is a rear kitchen. Wife from the get go said she didn't want a mid-kitchen as she didn't want anybody walking through while she was cooking. We have had no problems at all. We don't use glass dishes. We are careful to pack carefully and we use the spring loaded bars on the fridge and on the cabinets. Only thing we would consider would be a front kitchen. Good luck, John
