I had a little time so I did a little research myself. On "over 12 months", first I searched "bike", then within those results "fell". I got 22 pages most not applicable. But through reading I discovered this. More often it is not the hitching the bike rack to the trailer itself that fails, what fails is the bike rack itself. Welds break and shear, bolts severe, metal bends and fatigues, straps loosen and fall off, and a whole host of other issues. In most cases this is due to the dynamic loading and the amount of bouncing that is going on way back there which ends up with the failure of the rack/platform because they just aren't built for those kind of loads and forces. There is a pretty good chance your securely fastened to the frame and welded receiver tube will still be there, but the bike rack and generator platform itself - not so much.
