Reese Revolution Pin Work with any hitch?

Hey All, Silly question. Is the Reese Revolution pin box compatible with any 5th wheel hitch? Are all Pins universal? Buying a Rockwood 5th wheel in a couple weeks and need to install a hitch in my 2015 Chevy 2500. Would like to install a Curt hitch but don't know if the pin is only compatible with Reese's own hitches?

Thanks!

  • You also can't use the turret assembly with a B&W Companion on a turnoverball mount. You can with a OME puck mount.
  • Backing up with 2 turning points would be a mess that would probably damage both the truck and the fiver.
  • If you unlock with the Andersen, you will have two pivot points...one at the Andersen and one at the turret of the Revolution. Two pivot points won’t work and since there is no way to keep the box from pivoting at the Andersen you have to keep the Revolution locked.

As far as bed clearance, with the Andersen, you have a bit of rear offset possible depending on how you configure both the hitch and the cup. Trailers and trucks will differ but depending on the setup, you may not need a rotating pin box. (Yes, I have an Andersen in my short bed 2500 and no clearance problems).

No, you would not want to buy a rig with a Reese Revolution or Morryde Orbital if you plan to use an Andersen. If there’s a unit on the lot with one of those pin boxes, you can make it work. But know that regardless of your hitch situation, Rigs with OEM Revolutions or Orbitals do not use standard mounting wings and you are stuck with either the Revolution or the Orbital or you will need to have frame modifications done to accept a standard pin box.

If I were to do it all again, I would NOT buy a rig with an OEM Orbital or Revolution. I would buy a rig with a normal pin box mounting and then put an aftermarket rotating box on if (if I needed a rotating box).

If you do want a rig with an OEM Revolution, strongly consider the Morryde Orbital, too.
  • Yes, that's how to lock it.

But I was asking what is special about the Anderson hitch that you would want to lock the Reese? The Anderson ball is in about the same position as the pin pivot point in a typical hitch. It's not a slider!

I'm new to 5ver hitches and have been researching various options, especially the Reese pivioting pin-box.

How does an Anderson mount let you leave the Reese locked?

By leaving the 'locking bolts' in place on turret OR re-installing them if removed

You may need to get a different wedge depending on the hitch you buy. You can go with an Andersen and leave the pin box locked.

I would buy the hitch that you like the most and then figure out if a custom wedge is needed.

    Correct........^^^^

Different wedges used on different 5th wheel hitches

    Reese Wedges
