Hope all is well, my wife and I have currently upgraded fifth wheels to a unit that weighs 12,000lbs and pull a boat that comes in at 4500lbs so were above the rates capacity on our 16k husky. It works quite well but I hate not having a good margin above a weight rating wether its nessecary or not. So I've been looking at upgrading before our annual 1 month trip to the lake next month. I most certainly like the looks of the quality construction on the Reese 20k select series. Again more than we need but dosent limit us in the future either. Is anyone using this particular hitch? How do you like it? And my most important question...... I have the custom mounted frame brackets along with the universal rails in the bed but of course they were set/drilled for the location of the husky, are these measurements universal with most hitches? I would hate to have to move the universal rails to accommodate a new hitch, thanks for your input

Don't know about the rail issue, but I have the Reese 20K Select Series hitch in my truck, have had the hitch since 07', never had an issue with it...Don't know about your other hitch, but all you have to do is check legs of the Reese hitch, believe from locking tab to locking tab front to back is 22"...just measure across and see if your rails have a slot for the front to back diminsion (22") and if they can accomodate the width (ie, L to R measure)...can't remember what that one was....You should be able to go to Reese on line and look up specs on the 20k and specs on your hitch that you have now and compare from that.

Don't know about the rail issue, but I have the Reese 20K Select Series hitch in my truck, have had the hitch since 07', never had an issue with it..X2, have the 20k Reese for my Big Horn at around 14k to 15k when loaded. No problems but I did have to learn and remember when hooking up, to lower the trailer hitch low enough to make the hitch head compltely level before hooking up.

I just replaced my Reese 16K with the 20K Select using the original rails. I don't know about Huskey. The 20K is narrower, so it uses different holes in the rail than our 16K and requires the rail to be bolted in the middle as well as the ends (per the Reese install manual). I had to add those bolts in each rail. I like the wrap around lock on the 20K, and the large platform. It does require that you hitch up a little lower than what it was with our older hitch, and as a result I tend to break the aftermarket nylon greeseless disk every once in a while. It is a nice sturdy hitch.

hey fellas sorry for the late response. Just got home from a wedding so had a chance to take some measurements on the rails in the bed. (measuring along the rail) the Closest or (inner slots) are 10" on center. Outer slots where my current hitch Is sitting are 20 - 9/16" on center. Distance between the two rails (slots) is 22" on center. As compared to other hitches I believe I am most interested in the 20k reese it seems like a quality heavy duty hitch, and even though its more than I need I don't think theres anything wrong with being slightly over what I need rather than too close to borderline with the 16k husky even though the husky has worked great for us. I looked at the other husky option and they go from 16K to 26K which is an insane jump. One thing that my rails do not have is a center bolt going through the bed.... which I can easily do of course. I assume this is recommended when using the 20k?

wasn't justifying my means at all, I was just curious as to wether anyone else ran this setup without the center bolts and its apparent that some people do. My mind was made up before I even took the hitch out of the box. It would make sense if there was an actual structural member that the bolt was going to tie into.

Maybe so, but there is a reason Reese wants it done, so why not? In my line of work, we never second guess the manufacturer, because in the end, we want the manufacturer to be responsible for the design. We especially would never purposely omit a design requirement without knowing the basis for it.

Do what you want - no skin off my back. I just think it's funny when someone ignores the manufacturer and searches for answers on a forum to justify their means.

Did anyone else receive a custom shaped galvanized steel wrench in one of the plastic bags that come with the hitch? Re read the instructions again and still no mention of its purpose...... Would be good to know if I had to tighten somthing haha

My hitch never had the two extra bolts and I've been using the Reese 20K Select Plus since 07'...just bolted to the brackets that are bolted to the frame of the truck....works fine for me.. That same hitch is now setting on the picture frame adapter from Mopar, and it's tied down at four corners and the Reese hitch is held to those "rails" with the 4 locking pins....never needed the two extra bolts in the last 6 years...don't know why one would need them now.

well the hitch came in, and fits like a glove. Hooked up the camper and shes as smooth as silk! I think I am going to enjoy this hitch quite a lot. I do have a couple questions though. I already had the existing rails installed from my husky 16K, and in this package the hitch came with two bolts (one per rail) to put through the bed in the middle of the rail. To me this seems pretty useless? especially since I wont be anywhere near 20k, not to mention your only bolting through thin sheet metal. I have the custom 3/8" plate brackets that utilize the existing frame holes, and then the 4 carriage bolts per rail seems more than adequate to me? also the hitch came with a custom galvanized wrench and for the life of me I cannot find anywhere in the instructions for what it is used for!

Iam sure i will be more than happy moving upto the select plus from my standard husky 16K. This is the rig new rig we pull.
