Just finshed a 10 state 5 week 5K miles road trip. Have spent a couple of days trying to research what to do since our Norcold left home cold and turned into a piece of garbage on the road. After speaking with Articold tech today I learned more items.
1. The fans have an on-off disk switch regulated by a thermal disk. Best to bypass the disk and leave the fans on all the time.
2. Check to make sure that the interior light does not stay on when the doors are closed.
3. Some doors have a flap heater. Needs to be turned off if it is on.
4. Plus the usual, make sure of no obstructions, clean the orifices, and
keep it level.
5. Door leaks will kill the cooling capacity. Use a dollar bill to check around the seals, make sure that there are no places for the cold air to leak out.
Now for my question:
At home it is the first time that I have used the jacks to stabilize the motor home. It is a 40 foot diesel and usually is in a flat spot. Allegedly, as long as the coach is within 6 degrees of level all will work ok. Now, with the jacks down and no movement, the unit is cold again, even with high temps. I am wondering if a rocking movement of the fridge can interfere with the dispersal of the refrigerant through the system.
And on a final note, even with the recalls these units are stil causing fires. I am giving serious thought to replacing the cooling unit "no matter what". I read a post that claimed to quote deposition testimony alleging ongoing fires and problems. It is bad enough to have to use ice and coolers. The idea of going down my fire ladder is really unattractive.
IMHO,
Harry
