On our last rig, we had a 55A converter and when it was cold the converter did have enough capacity to open the slides without batteries - it overloaded the converter. I actually had to go back to the house and grab a 12V battery so I could close them. I could have used the truck, but didn't want to cause issues with it in case something else was wrong. Turns out it just needed the battery as a buffer.
I ended up being lazy and never removed our 6-volt batteries again, and 5 years later they were still doing their job up through trade-in.
