There is a warning on the wall by my slide-out switches that says the battery must be installed for the slides to work. I've never tried disconnecting the battery, but when I leave the camper plugged in and flip the battery cut-off switch ... slides don't work.
I live in central Indiana. We have 20 below zero weather almost every winter in late December and throughout January (at least once every year for years now). I've never removed my battery (1 - 12 volt) and I keep my camper plugged in 24x7x365. I've had my camper now, 2 years and not had any problems with the battery. My last camper, I got 6 years out of the original battery and 2 from the one I bought when it was traded.
Canadian winters, no doubt, are colder-longer than Indiana. But if the battery is charged, and kept on a charger, and you're running things in your camper over the winter, I don't see any reason why they should not stay healthy for you by simply leaving them on the camper.
