I have a Life Style 5th wheel and I am in the Houston, TX area. My tow vehicle is out of service due to a problem with the front differential. We had a trip planned for the week of February 7th but without the tow vehicle we can't make it. Does anyone know if it is possible to rent a one ton dually with a hitch installed, not a goose neck. I have checked with all the major truck rental places but no luck. The best I could do was a single axle 18 wheel tractor. Too big! Probably not going to happen, but I thought someone here might have a suggestion.

Doubtful but you could maybe look into transport of the fifth wheel itself and drive a car or rent one there.

I searched for such a rental and struck out completely. This was before I bought a fiver, because I didn't know anyone who owned one, and was considering where I would be if my truck was disabled. It's a downside to owning a fiver.

You could ask a RV dealer near you they might have an idea of who could tow your trailer to where you need it, after al the RV's just don't appear on their lots, and like mentioned above rent a car. Good Luck

I would look for an RV Transport Company and pay them to move it to where you need it.Another option would be to offer another RV'er to use their truck (offer cash for wear & tear) or have them haul it for you.Supposedly the 5th wheel hitch on a semi truck will work with a standard RV pinbox. If true you may be able to rent a truck from Ryder or one of the other companies renting commercial trucks.

That is where the puck system is handy. Enterprise has both Ford and Dodge trucks you can rent that have the trailer prep package. You can just take the hitch out of your truck and slap it in the rental for the trip. Takes less than 30 minutes for the swap.

Another option is to check with the local RV rental places...I know of one that rents a truck (or they did when I checked years ago)...but I'm pretty far from you.

There is a place in Kansas City that will rent a truck with a fifth wheel hitch. I looked into it last year when our truck was stolen. Wasn't cheap but was doable. I know that doesn't really help you but thought I would throw it out there.

This subject has come up before occasionally. And I don't remember any one saying they found a place to rent a truck to tow their 5er.

Thanks for all the comments. My thing is that I would prefer to drive the 5th wheel myself. We are going to Fort Benning, GA for our grandson's graduation from boot camp. Our trip would only be about 7 days including the drive up and back. Our backup plan is just drive there and stay in hotels, but that isn't what we want to do.

Where do you need to go? I have a nephew who is in Dallas and does commercial hauling (boats, cars etc)... not sure if he has a 5er setup or not. I could check if you want, and get a quote if he is equipped to do so.
