Replace Black Water Valve with full holding tank

Help.. Just got started RVing. Have 2013 Redwood Fifth Wheel Camper. During routine dump and flush, the black water valve broke. I have a full tank and would like information on how to replace valve with out getting "stuff" all over me. The broken part is inside the sealed gate area of the valve. I am unable to operate the valve to empty the tank to replace the broken valve with a new one.

  • Is it still under warranty? If so, dealers love getting loads of cr ap from their customers
  • You can buy a replacement cable for some valves so you must be able to replace some of them.

The black water valve has a cable operation.

There may be a possibility that the cable just slip out from the sleeve. If you can locate the valve and cut a hole in the underbelly to access it, putting the cable back in and torquing the screw should solve the problem. That is, if that's the problem.
  • Well.......

To replace valve you have to remove it. Once you loosen the four bolts that hold valve in place, STUFF is going to flow out.

Contact a septic tank service company and have them suck tank as empty as possible via toilet OR possibly suck it empty via a sump pump with an extended suction line down in tank.

Otherwise you will have to bucket brigade it........wear old clothes or slicker
  • This ought to be interesting. If you can get down to the tank from the roof vent, you should be able to get out most of the liguids with a pump which should help limit the mess. No, a better idea is to suck out the liquids through the toilet. Other thand that, I don't have any ideas.
