Replacing Couch in 5th Wheel

Some of the manufactures (Jayco comes to mind) hide plumbing and heating under the sofa which makes it very difficult to just pull out the sofa and replace with something else.

Replaced our couch with 2 recliners.....the recliner came apart(backs lift off).
Was easy to do...even getting the old crummy sleeper couch out.

In our first 5th wheel we replaced the couch/sleeper with a futon. They make some really nice looking futons. The futon was about half the weight, easier to fold out into a bed, and more comfortable for guests to sleep on.

I went back today and looked at the theater seating we were looking at. At 78" wide it wasn't going thru the 69" tall door. So I turned it up and lo and behold there are 2 pieces of angle iron, one front and one back that have 4 bolts holding one recliner, 4 bolts holding the console, and 4 bolts holding the other recliner. 12 bolts and I have 3 pieces and 2 pieces of angle iron. No problem at all working that into the trailer one at a time. It makes sense after looking because this setup can be bought with or without the console, with another recliner in the middle, or however you wanted to mix or match it up.

Happy camper, now all I have to do is recruit the manual labor to get the old sleeper/sofa out.

I'd been a bit apprehensive about pulling out the rear window, but hey, it would work.

Replaced couch this year in our unit from a 68" couch which came out thru door but replaced with a 86.5 which involved removing rear window and goin thru opening. Lucky that my window used a large rubber gasket that didn't require sealant.

We took out both swivel chairs and the couch and replaced them with 2 Lazy-boy rocker/ recliners...one swivels...one doesn't. This works out perfect for us as we don't have overnight guests, plus we both have back problems.

Are you SURE your door is only 68" tall? That doesn't seem high enough for a 5er door. Can you take the couch through the door at an angle? bottom part of couch be at lower left or right hand corner and top part of couch be at the opposite top corner? It'll give you more height, but it depends on how thick couch is....If door is only 68" tall, anyone over 5' 8" would bump their head going in or out....sounds too low.

Ok, I remeasured it. door jamb to trim piece over door, just a hair under 70". I'm 6' and if I walk straight out I will hit my head but with the step down you're going down and never hit.

BTW it's a hair under 28" wide.

OK..my 5er is at my camp in WV, next time I go up, I'll check, but I'm only 5'8" tall, so I'm good:)
