1. These are really simple mechanisms.
2. Sooner or later tires, brakes, bearings will fail, likely when you're on the road or about to be.
If you've studied and understand how they work you're ahead of a lot of folks.
If you've removed/repacked/replaced/adjusted them yourself before at home, you'll start out more confident, and when something fails it's likely you can manage something on the side of the road or in a campground, saving lots of time (what it would take for a tow truck or mechanic to reach you) and probably money.
Besides, it's one of those delightful jobs which will leave you with black, greasy hands and bragging rights.
Go for it.
