Replacing sofa bed and recliners

Hi, I know this is not a NEW subject but I am soooo confused :h We have a Montana fifth wheel with four slides. The back has 2 recliners and one of the slides has a free standing dinette and sleep sofa. The sofa has the world's most uncomfortable air mattress and the recliners are falling apart. I would like to replace with something like Lazy Boy hide a bed and two recliners. In addition I would like to reverse the placement (recliners in the slide with dinette and couch across the back. I would appreciate any ideas, suggestions, direction etc.
  • I have a similar situation. I want to replace couch with a regular sofa in the back window, that will let slide out close, and change two chairs to a recline love seat. It will be a while as wife will need it to use after surgery.
  • That's what we did on last TT and this 5'er. Just find what you like, take measurements to make sure it fits. Check to make sure the backs come off. Just make sure you can get it thru the door if you're turning it sideways. You may need to screw the dinette down so just reuse the same screws. Dbl check that you won't be putting the screw thru something under the floor in the back.
  • We have the same model trailer as you have. We bought La-Z-Boy recliners and put two of them right where you suggested. Fit great and are very comfortable. We seldom have anyone on the airbed but those who have been on it said it was comfortable so maybe you have too much air in yours. In any case, we put that in the back under the big window but it would not allow the slides to close. Missed by about 1/2". I took off the metal brackets that hold the side curtains in place next to the big window and that gave me about 1" more inch and now the slides come in just fine.
  • I replaced our hide a bed (read POS) with an Ashley love seat. Fit perfect, very comfortable and only $300 on sale. Any one wants to spend the night I have a small air mattress for the floor or Google motels for them, preferably the latter.
  • I made a similar switch, but just removed two of the dinette chairs to provide more space for the recliners, which now directly face the TV. I built my own sofa across the full width of the fiver, a true 6ft sofa with small built-in end tables. Each end table has removable tops for storage underneath. There is also storage behind the seat backs and huge storage underneath the seats. The sofa will sleep one person plus an air mattress on the floor can sleep two more if necessary.
  • The lady we bought our 10-yr-old 5er from, said she went to a (regular) furniture store and bought a smaller-sized jackknife couch, because the original one had become worn. The color complements the decor - and it's really nice! Plus, being a "real sofa" - there's some storage space underneath and behind.
  • We have a 36 foot Montana Mountaineer and removed the heavy sofa bed and 2 heavy recliners and table. We bought a good quality residential sofa to match the decor.Took awhile to find a sofa to fit/fill the entire rear area due to rear slide clearances. The wife got a new Lazy Boy recliner.

Had to remove the sofa legs and stand it on end as we worked it through the door (tight fit) to keep from hitting the frig. The sofa is plenty long enough for me to stretch out or sleep on.With a cover on the sofa 2 full size Collies can sleep & dream quite well with room to spare.

Other improvements were replacing the bedroom queen mattress with a residential pillow top queen firm mattress, also turned the dining table longways and removed 2 of the 4 dining chairs for more room.I replaced the desk chair with one of my old wooden office chairs which rocks and swivels.

  • Well, if you are ever in Goshen or Elkhart Indiana where all the rv's are made there are lots od suppliers there to get every piece of furniture or appliance or anything for the RV there in the area. I had some work done at Morryde and while there bought a sofa and chair, everything there is made to fit into RV's. You could also order it but you would have to pay shipping.
