Coming to a close on our 3rd full season, and pushing close to 10K miles on our Bombs. Tread appears to be about 40-50% and along with the sidewalls looks good. Unless the drastic happens sooner, I'll probably close out next season and then look for replacements.
Two years ago on my then 5 yr old Carlisles I left home with tires that looked fine. Went on about a short 120 mile trip (in July). Got to my destination and camped for 4 days. Before I left for home...did a check and all again was fine on the tires psi..sidewalls etc. It was real hot that day and about 1/2 way home kablam..blew out a tire...and in the process tore off my center electric brake wires. The tread just separated right off the sidewalls. Called my road service and while he is replacing my tire with the spare i looked at the others and 3 of the remaining 5 tires had cracks forming on the sidewalls. It happens that fast. I dont think i would wait for "drastic" to happen.
