- ckwizard777ExplorerMine is installed in a slide so I have 2-vents in the wall that I sealed off with a piece of lexan and I just left a 1/2 gap at the top of the fridge for venting and it works very well.
You are correct the whirlpool sticks out about 2-inches further than your stock unit but it looks good and I gained more capacity and best of all my ice cream stays frozen :) - azrvingExplorer.
- NJRVerExplorerNice job! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
- blofgrenExplorerVery nice! Thank you for detailed write up. I think this is the way I'll go as well when our current Norcold 10 cubic foot fridge goes out.

FWIW,
I am using the Whirlpool Model WRT111SFDB in my 5er too and really like it. I hooked it up to a kill-o-watt meter and this thing literally SIPS power. It seems to be very efficient. I installed a PROSine 1000 Watt inverter to my 2 6v interstate batteries and it runs it just fine.

This is the exact fridge I just put in mine. two group 24 marine batteries will run it about 12 hours before voltage drops low enough to shut of inverter. - mbrowerExplorerWhy is it necessary to seal the side vents? I added insulation and trimmed the front same as my Norcold refer. It is my plan to install some 12V fans and a temp switch in the back to exhaust hot air and pull in cooler air. My heater exhaust on the opposite side of the trailer.

- mbrowerExplorerThanks, furnace exhaust gas would be a big concern for me too. I have seen others seal those vents in the past and thought the fridge would benefit from circulating air. I like where you mounted your cooling fan by the way.
- mbrowerExplorerWhen I first started doing research on installing residential refrigerators, there were two concerns I had and very limited information on the web. One, how do you trim the opening to make it look like a professional install and not put in as a after thought. I also wanted something that would keep the doors closed during travel that didn't involve drilling holes in the refrigerator or cabinets and I didn't like the look of baby latches and Velcro straps.
This works with the whirlpool refrigerator and may work with others but this is what I did when I installed the refrigerator:
I bought this wall corner trim from lowes. Its made of some type of plastic and is light and trims easily. Its also some what fragile but cuts really clean with a miter saw. I attached this to the wall with double sided tape. Painted it black with rustoleum after cutting and test fit.
Really blends in well and is hardly noticeable.
To keep the doors closed during travel, I removed one of the plugs that is covering the screw hole for reversing the door. I went to lowes and bought a threaded rod that matched the hole and a black handle. I epoxied (JB weld) the rod into the handle and cut the rod to the length I needed.
I just thread it into the screw hole and the handle holds the door shut. Just takes a few seconds and holds both doors tight. - azrvingExplorer.
