residential refrigerator

i have a new cc36ckts w/ res reefer. reefer does not come on while towing. fellow camper showed me a switch inside his mobile suites to change to inverter while towing. should my cc have a switch??? no literature came with the unit. thanx
  • I have the Amana res. fridge in my Daydreamer, the batteries supply power to it automatically while in transit and when plugged in the shore power takes over. I have a 4 12v bank of deep cycle batteries and that fridge will use up the power quickly so while I'm on the road fer a few days I run my genny during the evening to ramp up the batteries, I wouldn't own a fiver without a residential frige ever again,we love it!
  • I leave my inverter set on AUTO and it switches to the battery as soon as it is unplugged.

  • If the refer came from the factory then you do have an inverter. You need to check things out whether you have a switch ( doubtful) dead batteries (possible) or something else going on. Get out your volt meter and start checking or hire someone to show you the proper operation.
  • Know the difference between an inverter & a converter. They are far from being the same thing.

A residential fridge, using only 120VAC needs an inverter to operate when not on shore power. Depending on the power needs of the fridge you may need a generous 12V battery bank to power the inverter.
  • Do you have an inverter that needs to be turned on when off electricity? I have to run mine with an inverter if not hooked up to 120.
