Riverstone RV

I looked at a Forest Riverstone RV at the dealer today. The first thing I notice when stepping in was trim pieces falling down from the ceiling and the vinyl floor gouged from the slide by the fridge. The salesman noticed it caught my attention and he said RV's take a beating going down the highway. My thoughts where, is this going to happen every time I take it down the highway? Overall it looked nice but wasn't a fan of the 37RL. Has anyone purchased one of these and what is their impression
  • We own a River Stone Legacy 38 MB and it is right around a year old now and we are very happy with it. Is it perfect, no but build wise it is great, most issues are with components installed and will be addressed at the FROG Rally in Goshen in about a week. We do not full time but more of a part time as I am retired and the wife is in the school district so we do use it a lot. Keep in mind there are 2 lines of River Stone but build quality should be equal just different amenities.

Most RV dealers won't fix anything until it is purchased.

That's because the RV dealer wants to be reimbursed for finishing the manufacturing. Forest River is the worst when it comes to any resemblance of quality control. They recently introduced a new dealer agreement which left most dealers PO'd. My local dealer who carried Salem and another FR brand I can't recall, just dropped carrying them altogether. Add to that they stopped offering their 2nd year optional warranty extension.

I rejected the first Roo 23WS shipped to us that was ordered by the dealer, due to $5K worth of factory authorized warranty repairs before we owned it. We only had a $1K deposit down at the time. Rockwood built us another which was better, but not by much. I finished building and correcting the deficiencies myself. If I would not have had sold my 2013 Keystone in the meantime while waiting for the ordered unit to be built I would never have purchased the replacement.

In hindsight I just should of walked regardless. Since we were interested in a specific floor plan / size in a 2 bunk hybrid FR was the only option and I left that cloud my judgement. Never again will I consider anything made by Forest River.

After the fact when going to shows I started looking closer. Forest River is scraping the bottom of the barrel where build quality is concerned no matter which one of their brands it is, and I have found warranty approvals or any other support or communication with Rockwood to be horrible at best.

Run away Will Robinson, run away.
  • I own a Riverstone Legacy 38FB and have been very satisfied with it. Yes, it has had its hiccups but nothing that the factory could not take care of when the dealer did not want to. The floor did scratched in some places and the factory replaced them and did give us slide slickers to put down before closing the slides to prevent it from doing so again. But as for trim work falling off, no. Workman ship on our Riverstone to the best of all the rigs we have owned.
  • When we went to a RV show we walked thought a number of high end 5th wheels, I can't tell you how many had trim hanging, lights out, cabinet doors ajar an handles loose ...

You would have thought that they would have fixed things to make a good showing, the sale people would say that these were just minor problems and if you buy the one they are showing or anything like the one they had at the show everything would be fixed before taking delivery ...

My comment back to them was if you can't take pride in your product now an fix the minor things now with their product what is it going to look like 6 months from now ...

If you want to know how a trailer is going to hold up go to a RV show and look thought the trailers, you will quickly know what brands hold together an which ones fall apart ... Think of two or three hundred people walking thought your trailer, twisting, turning, pulling on everything an see how well it holds together :)

    Safe travels
  • When my kids were little and we went to the toy section of the store looking for a new toy for them, the kids would often navigate to some off-the-wall "something" that they just HAD to have or they'd simply die! Before buying, I'd search through the shelves looking for broken ones. I figure, if the toys broke in the STORE by kids playing with them, they'd NEVER hold up at home. And you'd be surprised (back in the day), how may toys would not hold up to the beating a child can give them.

Fast forward? If the camper won't hold up traveling from the manufacturer to the dealer, what chance do you have with it after you purchase it? I certainly hope you walked away from that one. But more important, told them why!

And I question why the =dealer= even had it unlocked to show! I saw an Open Range, IIRC, at La Mesa in Mesa AZ that had a big hole punched in the wall from a door handle, yet they had it open to view. That turned me off to OR =and= La Mesa, right there. OR in that they didn't properly "pack" the FW for shipping and La Mesa for even having it open to show. Just shows how sloppy both the factory and the dealer are.
