Road King Tires - Rrrgh

Only tires I have ever had fail....including your so=called "China Bombs" are Goodyear. My best friend is in the excavating business and every equipment trailer tire he has gotten in 10 years was made in China and no higher failure rate then US made. It depends on use factors more then where they are made.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys. I have 7,000 lb axles. Don't want to change out my 16" wheels. I looked into the GY 614's and ouch! $$$. Will keep looking and settle on something I don't have to worry about.

X2. He hit it on the head! You can shop for a better quality tire but if that more expensive tire is still not rated for the weight you are putting on it, then you are wasting your money.

Two heavy fivers, 26 states traveled with G614's, never a tire failure or air pressure loss.

My two sets of GY G's and one set GY H's never lost air never a flat never a problem at all. Each set had many thousands of miles. Several thousand each traveling at 75 mph.

It appears OP's 5er has 7,000# rated axles, with a GVW of 16,000#, (I also saw 15,000#), but OP didn't follow up with additional information on his unit. Make sure your wheels are rated for 110 psi if you upgrade to G rated tires. Mine were so I didn't need new wheels. I agree with a post above, if you have 7,000 lb axles you can't use the Ribs or similar, even though they are good tires.

I have G614's. I don't try to pinch pennies on tires. Bad/Cheap tires can kill you and I want to live a bit longer.

We live in ND, closest city is 1.5 to 2 hours away so we do a lot of internet shopping. We buy all of our tires at http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.do. These guys have always been amazing to work with. They carry all the brands from low to high end, so you can do some comparisons across tires. Buy 4 shipping is free, warranty work they pay the return shipping. Have had to get a tire replaced and they worked with our local tire shop to resolve the issue. Replacement didn't cost me a penny. Just an option as we need to find better deals with the ND prices soaring out of reach for many of us who don't work in the oil fields.

All are excellent tires including the Bridgestone Duravis but all have a weight rating of 3042 x 80 psi (E). May not be enough for the OP's Bighorn w/7000# axles.

If you are still on 16" wheels, I would suggest something made/owned by Michelin. The Michelin XPS is costly but an excellent tire. BFG Commercial TA's also owned by Michelin are good and I have heard that Bridgestone sounds like folks like them. All are LT tires. I have had experience with the XPS and also the Commercial TA's and both have a strong sidewall and are heavier physical weight than most.

China Bombs....Get a non-Chinese tire.
