Air conditioners usually have a gasket type seal, no caulk. You should get in the habit of checking all the other places that are caulked (joints, vents, skylights etc) annually at minimum, and reseal as required. It's not a difficult DIY job if you're comfortable with heights. Key is to make sure the area is properly cleaned first. You can usually apply right over the top of the old with a self levelling sealant like Dicor.
