Roof top AC mounting??

My signature Fifth wheel has two coleman Mach series AC units. I have no inside mounting frame (that I can find anyways) and was curious if anyone has removed these type of units that could shed some light on how they are mounted to the roof. I would like to replace the seals and would rather have some insight rather than trying to figure out on my own. Thanks!!
  • I would go to the Coleman website and see if I could find an installation PDF.
  • Mine is simply bolted to the roof. Take off your ac shroud and you will see four lag bolts near each corner. Piece of cake.
  • There are a number of UTube videos on this subject - might help.

On my rig when you remove the interior shroud you see 1" wide square metal frame which runs along the perimeter of the square hole. There are 4 bolts that run up into the roof air conditioner. You remove those bolts and disconnect the wires ... once that's done you can lift the upper air conditioner.
  • When replacing the unit after installing the new seal, beware of overtightening the bolts/nuts, as this can crush the seal =too= much, causing leaks. Or so I've read on here about 'leventy-nine times... :-)

I think this may be how mine is mounted. Thanks!

Tried this first. All the installation PDFs I could find showed the mount using a interior metal mounting frame which mine did not have.
    Thanks!

Ditto with my Dometic Quite cool units
  • Mine clamps to the roof. Pull the inside A/C shroud and you'll probably see the fasteners going up from below. There is nothing on the top side involved in holding mine on.

i Think I have what they call a race track type plenum where both AC units dump into the same duct. Either AC unit can supply the whole coach but when both are working I have much stronger air flow. I like the design but all I have on the inside are small round supply registers and 4 small rectangular return ducts no where close to where the AC units are. The mounting bolts have to be outside under the shrouds.
