I've wanted to do something for the cats when we're traveling to make living in the small space of the Truck Camper more fun for them. I came up with the idea to build a rooftop CATIO we can put up on the roof when we're camped and not have to worry about peoples loose dogs running around and attacking them. A fenced area on the ground is doable, but a stray dog will still attack the fenced in cats and terrorize them. My solution is to build a rooftop CATIO caged space the cats can get in and out of through the rooftop escape hatch. On nice warm days, we could leave it open for the cats to come and go as they please. Being on the roof, it is unlikely anything but a big bird of prey would ever try to get the cats but the screen is pretty tough and would stop for instance an eagle or owl from getting to the cats. The only real concearn is an animal capable of figuring out to jump on the the hood of the truck, then up to the camper roof. So it is apparent even if the cats would be safer on the roof of the truck camper, there is always something and we have to maintain a vigilant watch over the cats. I'll post a video of the cats using the CATIO soon, next camp trip.

Three views of the project. It did take more time than I expected but I think it will be worth it for the cats happiness traveling. I consider it a slide out or pop up for cats.
