Rubber roof coating on a brand new roof

Here's the situation. Found water damage on my '06 Wildwood. Had to rent a storage unit to tear it apart and repair. All done with repairs and now ready to replace roof. Everything ready to go and ordered roofing kit. Opened the box and found out the company sent the wrong color EPDM rubber. My original was bright white. The one sent to me is cream colored. The contrast is awful. Here's my dilema, already paid two months of rent on storage unit (expensive!), and have about ten days left before another months rent is due and I don't want to pay for another month. If I send the EPDM back to the company and wait for the correct one, I'll run out of time. My thoughts were to instead coat the brand new cream colored EPDM with liquid rubber or cool coat making it bright white. Question...finally, can I coat a brand new rubber roof? My local dealer said NOT to. It would deteriorate the new EPDM. Any toughts?

  • GO to internet ( EDPM roof coatings for RV). The folks at edpm will give you the do's and don'ts. Coated my edpm at 16yrs old. Love the NO BLACK STREAKS.

I am facing a similar situation with my trailer as to damage, may I ask, when you decided to approach this yourself, did you already have some experience with that type of work? Or was it a learn on the fly? Where did you look for info? Thanks

First, don't wait. The damage only gets worse. I decided to do it myself when the estimate was $8000 for the dealer to do it and the insurance baulked. It's not as difficult as you may think. I took apart my entire rear end (with bunks), the entire front end, and replaced every sheet of plywood on the roof for just under $2500. What will scare you the most is not the damage itself or even the work involved, but the realization of how cheaply these units are made. Experience? You don't need to be an expert, but you do need to know and have tools. The three MUST HAVE tools: Rockwell (or equivilant)Sonicrafter, pneumatic staple gun and a table saw.
PM me if you have questions. Good luck
  • I applies Liquid Roof to my previous motorhome. The roof was about 7 years old at the time. The roof was fine. I just wanted to extend it's life.
  • Give it a year.

Some come with a powder coating to keep if from sticking together in the roll.
