Rv insurance

Thanks for the replys guys. I now have some good questions to ask this next week when I get a chance to our insurance agent. If anyone has any more good info I am all ears. Thanks again!

When I inquired why the rates were so low, she said or truck covers the trailer when is in tow and the trailer is not much of a liability when it is sitting chocked at the campsite.

So....I was in the same situation; I've been towing a TT for 20 years and asked many times IF my TT was covered for liability and damage while hooked up to my tow vehicle. "Sure" was the answer I got for 20 years and then it happened....... I cut a corner too tight and damaged the siding on the camper with the edge of my tow vehicle.

So called up the insurance company - you guessed it..........

So now I have a separate policy to cover the TT under ALL circumstances for $150/year.

(BTW - the ins company came through and did eventually pay for the damage)

I have more or less the same coverage as you and my cost is less than $100 a year for a 2012 34 ft TT

First, there is no liability insurance on the fifth wheel. Not sure what the Liability and Underinsured is that you quoted, since the liability portion is on your truck.

There should only be comp and collision.

If you are not a full timer, and someone gets injured at your campsight, or falls on your fifth wheel steps for example, your Homeowners insurance will cover that for the " liability" portion.

If the quote you are giving in for the Grand Design in your sig, it seems a little low, but not too much.

Make sure you have zero deductible glass, and that it will cover the full market value of your rig in case of fire or the worst case scenario, and your rig is totaled.

Also check to make sure your awning is covered under the policy. Usually, most policies include anything that is permanently attached to the rv.

If you are a weekender, I would guess about 1-3k contents coverage should be enough, and is normally automatic on an rv policy.

They should also give you " vacation " coverage, so if your fifth wheel ends up in yhe shop, they will pay for a hotel.

Liberty is pretty good about multi car/ homeowners policies, so that is most likely why your rate is so low.

We paid $87 for a year when we were weekenders, but we were also in Phoenix, which was considered a high crime/ theft area.

I would call your agent tomorrow and check on the coverages mentioned above.

Oh, years ago my prudential agent stated, no need for coverage on the trailer, it is covered with the TV! Turned out he was only part right, it only covered liability, nothing else!!

I agree something not right! We pay $325 per year with GEICO, it covers such things as towing hotel accomodations if RV incapacitated and the pets! So far for the coverage they have been the best.

The catch is that the liability only covers when attached to you tow vehicle. Plus there is no coverage for you personal property under that policy. You could have some limited coverage from your homeowners policy. Liability might extend to the trailer from your homeowners policy if your company would allow you to add it.

I looked at my auto policy which includes coverage for my 30' fiver for comp. and collision and the yearly rate is $81.00. So $77 seems reasonable. The benefit to having your trailer a part of your auto policy is that there can be no back and forth between 2 insurance carriers if your tow vehicle is covered by one company and the trailer by another.

Agreed! That 200 to 300 a year is what I have been quoted on brand spanking new 5ers and that included road side assist....
