At this point in time, a 1/2t designation is merely a marketing tool to differentiate it from larger trucks. So, anyone who states they'd never use a 1/2t to pull, say, a 10,000lb FW is missing the big picture IMHO. Today's 1/2t trucks are, for the most part, the equivalent of a 3/4t truck.
I'm curious. How exactly are 1/2 ton trucks today the equivalent of 3/4 tons?
I understand HD ratings, max tow prep etc. But there's still numerous differences between the two hence the different designations.
Today's Max Tow Ecoboost F-150 will out-tow the 1989 460 equipped F-250 that I learned to drive stick on. Heck, any half ton equipped for towing would outperform my old F-250. The F-150 has bigger brakes and better capability to dissipate heat. That old F-250 had pizza-cutter tires 235/80R16. Half tons have really evolved over the past 10 or 20 years and truly have surpassed the capabilities of older 3/4 ton trucks from the 90's and some from the early 2000's.
