Big difference between 1/2 tons and 3/4 tons is there is generally an upside to 3/4 tons in that the RAWR is higher. A 3/4 ton usually shares the same rear axle or components with a 1 ton. Example my 2500 has the same identical rear axle as a 3500. Springs are the only difference. I can safely load 3000lbs on the rear axle and still be under the RAWR. Try that on a 1/2 ton.
With the 2650lb payload of the F150 you're maxed out. With the 2360lb payload in the 2500 you still have room by adding air bags or just upgrading the leafs. You won't reach the RAWR on a 3/4 ton when you reach the GVW.
Go ahead and tow 10-11,000lbs with your 1/2 ton. It's just a marketing ploy.
